This course looks at recent developments in this area with particular emphasis on recent case law examining the meaning of the ‘serious harm’ test set out in s1 of the Defamation Act 2013. It then goes on to review the single publication rule and the website operators’ defence as well as consideration of a recent case concerning defamatory online reviews.
On completion of this course you will:
- understand the key issues relating to the issue of ‘serious harm’ introduced by s of the Defamation Act 2013
- be familiar with the content of the website operator’s defence
- have an awareness of issues relating to defamatory on-line reviews
- be able to identify areas of risk and the steps that can be taken to mitigate these areas.
